Roaming among the Romans

Spent the morning on eating and errands…Rich found some pork cheeks that made him very happy.  And we were picking up water at the grocery store and did a check of the snack foods.   It’s always interesting to see what flavors people around the world want in their snacks….how about chicken roti and cheeseburger chips?

We also discovered a public “art” piano in a rose garden here - you never know what you’ll find wandering around a nice city.

For the second part of the day we all headed back to Trier.   This time it was to visit the remains of the Roman baths, and the amphitheater.  The baths had many purposes over the years, including as a procession hall and barracks, and as a residence.  Lots of excavation and protection going on at this site now - but Janka told us all the scaffolding is new - you used to be able to just lie in the grass there with an unobstructed view.

I gave the lying down part a try on this nice warm prone stone column.  My own personal heated stone massage.

While Janka surveys the scene.

We also went to the amphitheater- no gladiators or wild animals, but Janka says that they still do concerts here.  Those Romans sure built things to last.  Nice that something from thousands of years ago still has utility.

There was a festival with live music happening in Trier which we heard and saw bits of all day- but it also involved lots of drinking, particularly since it was such a warm day and the youth of the world have been cooped up for years.  So it was busy and loud.  We mostly avoided the mayhem and had dinner in a nice Italian restaurant Janka knows well.  Look at the little decorative sugars ship on these desserts  and a QV for Quo Vadis, name of the restaurant! Also had some wine at a mostly German wine bar and shop in their private courtyard - the we could hear the festival music from there.  Maybe Kat did a little chair dancing?   Only we four know.

Great food, great weather, great drinks and great company.  Cheers to Trier!
