Strasbourg stroll
Today we did a lot of walking around Strasbourg. Started out at the Ponts-Couverts, the three watchtowers you can see here - which are some of the last bits of the wall that once surrounded this city in the Middle Ages. The many channels you see are parts of the River Ill, which splits apart into little water fingers. Our viewing point here allowed us to both watch kids kayaking, tour boats touring, and eels swimming. And it was a glorious day with no rain at all. This area of Strasbourg is known as “Petit France” and we saw more of that half timber architecture and the ubiquitous abundance of flowers.
We also walked to the Neustadt, place de la Republique, which is built around a circular garden with manicured bushes and a moving statue the Monument du Morts which is dedicated to Alsatians who died fighting in various wars.
The circular park has many impressive buildings including th Rhine Palace, the National University Library, and the Syrasbourg National theatre.
Rich was the photographer today, and seemed to be letting us ladies lead the way, because I found many shots like this on the camera roll
So lots of sightseeing and strolling and shopping today - but my prize memory if of course gelato related. Today we discovered the innovation of the side by side cone. I intend to conquer America with this ice cream vessel.
We then drove back to Luxembourg and had a great vegetarian dinner there. This photo taken at 9:45 at night - it stays light for so long! Wish I could pack the long evenings up and bring them home!
